Tinnitus app checklist

Use this checklist to judge any tinnitus app before you pay, then again after 2 to 4 weeks. It sums up our guide, App for tinnitus: how to choose one that actually helps, where every point is explained and sourced.

Before you download: 9 questions

Skip the app if you see

  • Promises to cure or permanently silence tinnitus
  • "Clinically proven" with no study named
  • Testimonials or star ratings offered as proof
  • Sells supplements for tinnitus
  • Loud default volume, or "turn it up to drown it out"
  • A paywall in the middle of relief
  • A trial that renews without clear notice, or no clear way to cancel

See a doctor first if

  • Your tinnitus is new, has changed, or is in one ear only.
  • It beats in time with your pulse.
  • Your hearing dropped suddenly: be seen within 24 hours.
  • It came after a head injury, or with vertigo or face weakness: go to an emergency department.
