About appfortinnitus.com
appfortinnitus.com is a free guide to choosing a tinnitus app, made by the team behind Tinnimo, a tinnitus relief app for iPhone. We wrote it to help you pick any app well, including one that isn't ours.
Who makes this site?
The same team that makes Tinnimo. That's a conflict of interest, so we say it at the top of the guide, in the footer of every page, and here. Tinnimo appears in one clearly labeled section of the guide, and nowhere else in the advice.
Why did we make it?
People looking for a tinnitus app usually want to compare. We think criteria serve you better than a ranking. Apps change, prices change, and we can't independently test other companies' apps. A good set of questions still works next year, whichever app you're looking at.
So the guide explains the kinds of apps, what the research says about each, and what to check before you pay. It doesn't name, rank or review third-party apps.
How do we choose sources?
- We start with clinical guidelines (NICE in the UK, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery in the US), Cochrane systematic reviews and peer-reviewed studies.
- We add health bodies and charities: NIDCD, the NHS, the World Health Organization, the American Tinnitus Association and Tinnitus UK.
- We read each source ourselves before citing it, and link every one. The guide cites 35 sources, 20 of them studies or reviews.
- We describe how certain the evidence is the way the source does: "may help", "low quality", "early".
- We don't use testimonials, star ratings or download counts as evidence.
How do we keep it honest?
- No ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored content and no paid placements.
- We check Tinnimo against the same checklist we give you, and say where it falls short.
- We never claim that an app, ours included, can cure tinnitus.
- We show the date the guide was last reviewed, and update it when guidelines or major reviews change.
Who reviews the content?
The guide is written and checked by the Tinnimo team. It has not been reviewed by a clinician yet. If that changes, we'll name the reviewer here.
How can you report a mistake?
Email support@tinnimo.com. Tell us what's wrong and, if you can, link a source. We'll check it and fix the page if we got it wrong.
Is this medical advice?
No. This site is general information to help you choose an app. It can't examine you or test your hearing. See a doctor about any change in your hearing, and get help fast if your hearing drops suddenly.
